Important Differences Between Australia and New Zealand part 1:

1) In Australia, jokes about Kiwi accents are hilarious. In New Zealand, jokes about Kiwi accents are not well received.

2) In Australia, it is OK to be Australian. In fact, this is even endorsed. In New Zealand, it is not.

3) In Australia, a highway will have at least two lanes, and possibly more. In New Zealand, a highway will frequently have just one lane which will be shared by traffic moving in both directions.

4) In New Zealand, if a motorist encounters a large truck travelling in the opposite direction on a narrow dirt road, that truck will slow down and move to one side so that both vehicles may safely pass one another. In Australia, such a truck would accelerate and begin to swerve erratically from side to side.

5) In Australia, if you drive over a possum, you feel bad. In New Zealand, if you drive over a possum, you feel good.

6) In Australia, people are generally expected to be literate. In New Zealand, this expectation also applies to cows (see figure 1).
